Our History

The British and Irish Hypertension Society (BIHS), founded in 1981 by eight clinicians, has a rich history of advancing the understanding and management of high blood pressure. Originally established to promote research, education, and awareness about hypertension, the society has grown into a leading authority in the field. Over the decades, BIHS has played a pivotal role in shaping clinical guidelines, fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, and supporting cutting-edge research to improve patient outcomes. With a commitment to reducing the burden of hypertension across the UK and Ireland, the society continues to advocate for innovation and excellence in cardiovascular health.

Charitable Aims:

Our mission is centered on the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of vital information regarding the pathophysiology, epidemiology, detection, investigation, and treatment of arterial hypertension and related vascular diseases. Through education, research, and collaboration, we strive to improve understanding and care in these critical areas of health.
