British and Irish Hypertension Society and The UK Kidney Association Join Forces for Prevention
This WorldHypertensionDay 17th May 2025, we’re proud to announce a strategic partnership between the BIHS and UKKA- uniting two expert communities in cardiovascular and renal health.
Hypertension and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are deeply intertwined in a feedback loop that often goes unnoticed until serious damage has occurred. Left untreated, they drive heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and diabetes-related complications. It's time for a more connected, preventative approach.
This new collaboration aims to:
✅ Slow CKD progression and reduce dialysis demand
✅ Prevent cardiovascular events
✅ Equip clinicians with joint education tools
✅ Improve patient self-management
✅ Influence national policy with co-developed commissioning tools
✅ Prioritise underserved and high-risk groups
"If we want to slow the rising burden of kidney disease, we must start with blood pressure." – Prof. Ian Wilkinson, BIHS President.
"Together, we can multiply education and advocacy, and reduce cardiovascular events and slow kidney disease." – Katie Vinen & Clare Morlidge, UKKA Presidents
The agreement offers reciprocal access to specialist forums, co-designed clinical guidance, shared public engagement campaigns and a united voice in advocacy.
Aligning prevention with policy - we will transform outcomes together.
