Our Vision

Our vision is to empower emerging hypertension leaders with the latest clinical knowledge, practical skills, and advocacy tools and to support them champion for actions that lead to improved health outcomes in their local communities.

To achieve this, the BIHS Emerging Hypertension Leaders Summer School focuses on two key areas:

  1. Discussing current best practice in hypertension management
  2. Building translation skills that enable healthcare professionals to influence policy, improve local services, and champion for improved health outcomes

Each year, the Summer School will welcome a diverse cohort of healthcare professionals from around the world who are committed to improving the management of hypertension. Travel bursaries are available to help ensure that financial constraints do not prevent talented participants from joining our flagship programme.

Professor Peter Sever, co-founder of the International Hypertension Education Project, commented:

“This education programme is about much more than learning the science of hypertension. It’s about creating the next generation of hypertension leaders who can take that science and make it real – in clinics, communities, and health systems around the world. The response to our first call for applications has been extraordinary, and we look forward to welcoming a highly talented and motivated inaugural cohort to Cambridge this September.”

Professor Ian Wilkinson, President of the BIHS and co-founder of the project, added:

“By bringing together future hypertension leaders from across the world, we are creating a generation of clinicians who can work together to combine cutting-edge science with the skills to deliver change where it matters most – in their own communities. Our ambition is to see the ripple effect of this Summer School improving blood pressure control and saving lives for years to come.”
