Blood Pressure Measurement Committee

Blood Pressure Measurement Standing Committee

The Blood Pressure Measurement Standing Committee was originally established in 2003 as a Working Party, bringing together small groups of BIHS members to deliver specific projects on behalf of the Executive Committee. In September 2022, it was formally renamed as a Standing Committee to reflect its enduring strategic role and expanded remit.

This committee is responsible for maintaining the BIHS list of validated blood pressure monitors, developing guidance on best practice in BP measurement, and advising on emerging technologies. As digital health evolves, the committee is expanding its role to include leadership on digital innovation and technology, AI integration, and policy engagement in blood pressure monitoring

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the BIHS-validated BP monitor list following a review of published validation studies
  • To oversee the BIHS Validation Service for manufacturers of blood pressure monitors
  • Promoting best practices in blood pressure measurement
  • Evaluating and advising on new and emerging technologies
  • Developing position statements and contributing to national guidance and standards
