Response from Professor Ian Wilkinson and Professor Professor Philip Chowienczyk regarding the recent publication of a trial among high-risk hypertensive patients.

The trial suggested a BP target of <120 mm Hg, as compared with <140 mm Hg, prevents major vascular events, with minimal excess risk (Liu J et.al. Lancet 2024, https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(24)01028-6).

BHS Endorses the Use of Single Pill Combination Treatments in Hypertension August 2013

It is thought that between a third and a half of all medicines prescribed for long-term conditions are not taken as recommended. ‘Simplifying the dosing regimen’ is one way of improving patient adherence as suggested by the NICE medicines adherence guidelines.
