We are very grateful that the course has been fully funded by an educational grant from The Foundation for Circulatory Health, but places are limited to 30 delegates.

Who should apply
Doctors who have not yet completed their specialist training and physicians (GPs and Consultants) who can demonstrate a strong interest in hypertension and wish to further develop their expertise in this area.

About the Course
The BIHS Emerging Hypertension Leaders Summer School is an intensive 3-day clinical educational experience to be held on 8 – 10th September at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
The course will enhance delegates knowledge, skills and confidence in the management of high blood pressure and inspire the next generation of hypertension specialist physicians and educators to champion for improved national and international services.

  • Sessions will be led by a faculty of international experts in the management of hypertension and cardiovascular disease prevention.
  • Core topics include: Diagnostic workup, investigations and assessment of HMOD, secondary hypertension, treatment strategies, management of concurrent risk factors (e.g. obesity), management of hypertension in special situation including pregnancy, complex and resistant hypertension, hypertensive crisis.
  • Workshops in blood pressure measurement, ECG, ECHO, Fundoscopy, arterial stiffness and an introduction to renal denervation.
  • Strategies to enhance service delivery to improve patient outcomes will be emphasized throughout the course.
  • The course combines lectures, practical skills workshops, case presentations and discussions and is designed to facilitate interaction between attendees and the BIHS expert faculty.
  • Delegates will be supported to develop Communities of Practice to facilitate continued collaboration and knowledge exchange after the course.

Expenses

  1. The summer school costs, including bed and breakfast at Trinity Hall in single-room student accommodation (shared bathrooms), will be covered by the BIHS.
  2. Lunch on the 8th, 9th and 10th September and the Summer School Dinner on the evening of Tuesday 9th September will be covered by the BIHS.
  3. Dinner on Monday 8th is at the expense of the delegate.
  4. Travel costs to and from Trinity Hall are at the expense of the delegate.
  5. Travel grants for delegates in countries facing economic difficulties will be considered on an individual basis.
  6. Please note that a £200 deposit will be payable if you are accepted onto the 2025 summer school course. This will be returned to you on completion of the course.
