Sir George Pickering Lecture
Sir George Pickering was unquestionably the father of hypertension research in the UK. Many of his former researchers have also made major contributions to hypertension research. It was a unanimous decision of the (then) BHS Executive Committee from the very start (1981) that the annual guest lecture should be in his name.
He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and his biography can be found in the RCP Munk’s Roll (a compendium of obituaries for Fellows): http://munksroll.rcplondon.ac.uk/Biography/Details/3556
The first lecture was delivered at the BHS Annual Scientific Meeting in 1983 by Edgar Haber (Boston, USA) and there has been an annual Sir George Pickering Lecture in his name every year since. Click here for a complete list of Sir George Pickering Lecturers.
